Getting started with the Amazon Creators API
The Amazon Creators API gives Amazon Associates product data (titles, images, prices, availability) for their own websites and apps. It replaced the Product Advertising API 5.0 (PA-API), which Amazon shut down on May 15, 2026.
This guide covers what you need before you start, how to create credentials and how to send your first request.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”You can only use the API if all three points apply:
- Your Associates account is fully approved (“final acceptance”) for the marketplace you want to use. If it is still under review, you can request final acceptance through the Associates contact form. You need a separate Associates account and partner tag for every marketplace.
- You had at least 10 qualified sales in the last 30 days. Without them every API call fails with
AssociateNotEligible, even if your credentials are correct. - You are the primary account owner of the store. Only the owner can create Creators API credentials.
Create your credentials
Section titled “Create your credentials”- Sign in to Associates Central and open Tools → Creators API.
- Click Create Application and give it a name. You can have up to two applications per store.
- Click Add New Credential. Each application can have up to two credentials.
- Copy the Credential ID, Secret and Version, or download them as a CSV file. Amazon shows the secret only once. If you lose it, create a new credential.
The CSV file has the columns Application, Application Id, Credential Id, Secret, Version.
You can import it into the Scratchpad as it is. The file is read in your browser and never uploaded.
What the version number means
Section titled “What the version number means”The version tells you which login address (token endpoint) your credential uses. It does not limit you to one region: a credential works in every marketplace, as long as you send a partner tag that belongs to that marketplace.
| Version | Token endpoint | Home region |
|---|---|---|
| 3.1 | https://api.amazon.com/auth/o2/token |
North America |
| 3.2 | https://api.amazon.co.uk/auth/o2/token |
Europe, Middle East and India |
| 3.3 | https://api.amazon.co.jp/auth/o2/token |
Far East |
Credentials with version 2.1, 2.2 or 2.3 are an older generation. They are being phased out. If you still have one, create a new 3.x credential (why).
Send your first request
Section titled “Send your first request”Every request takes two steps:
-
Get an access token. Send your Credential ID and Secret to the token endpoint of your version (OAuth 2.0 client credentials, scope
creatorsapi::default). The token is valid for one hour. Store it and reuse it. Fetching a new one for every call gets you rate-limited. -
Call the API.
POSTtohttps://creatorsapi.amazon/catalog/v1/<operation>with these headers:Authorization: Bearer <token>Content-Type: application/jsonx-marketplace: www.amazon.de(the marketplace you want data from)
In the JSON body, always send
marketplaceandpartnerTag(your store ID or tracking ID for that marketplace).
The quickest way to see this in action: open the Scratchpad, import your CSV, pick a marketplace, enter your partner tag and click Test credentials. The Code tab then shows the same request as cURL, PHP or JavaScript.
How many requests you can send
Section titled “How many requests you can send”New credentials can send 1 request per second and 8,640 requests per day during the first 30 days. After that, your limit depends on the revenue your API links generate, up to 10 requests per second.
Tip: one GetItems call with 10 ASINs counts as a single request. If you go over the limit, the API
answers with ThrottleException.
