ThrottleException: Amazon Creators API error

HTTP 429Throttling (429)Documented by Amazon

What it means

You sent more requests than your limit allows, either per second or per day.

Message returned by the API: The request was denied due to request throttling. Please verify the number of requests made per second.

Typical causes

  • More than your TPS limit in one second (new accounts: 1 TPS).
  • Daily quota (TPD) used up. New accounts get 8,640 requests per day.
  • Quota shrank because shipped revenue via the API dropped.

How to fix it

  1. Wait retryAfterSeconds if present, then retry with exponential backoff.
  2. Batch up to 10 ASINs per GetItems call. One call counts as one transaction.
  3. Cache responses (offers 1 hour, other data 1 day) and spread calls evenly over the day.

Not sure which part fails? Run Test credentials in the Scratchpad. It checks the token, the API access and the partner tag separately.

Example response

{
  "type": "ThrottleException",
  "message": "The request was denied due to request throttling. Please verify the number of requests made per second.",
  "retryAfterSeconds": 60
}
