MissingCredential (UnauthorizedException): Amazon Creators API error

HTTP 401UnauthorizedExceptionAuthentication (401)Documented by Amazon

What it means

The request has no Authorization header, so Amazon does not know who you are.

Message returned by the API: Missing authentication credentials.

Typical causes

  • Header not set.
  • A proxy or CDN strips the Authorization header.
  • Header name misspelled.

How to fix it

  1. Send Authorization: Bearer <access_token>.
  2. Check that proxies forward the Authorization header.

Not sure which part fails? Run Test credentials in the Scratchpad. It checks the token, the API access and the partner tag separately.

Example response

{
  "type": "UnauthorizedException",
  "message": "Missing authentication credentials.",
  "reason": "MissingCredential"
}

Related errors

  • InvalidToken: The access token in the Authorization header is broken, incomplete or in the wrong format.
